CCINDLE Joint Statement on the Best Practices for Countering Gendered De-Democratization in Europe and Beyond

The CCINDLE Joint Statement on the Best Practices for Countering Gendered De-Democratization in Europe and Beyond is out now. This is a key output of the project’s work on the intersection of anti-gender and anti-democratic political movements and the feminist responses to these trends.

The report was led by project partner Elżbieta Korolczuk from Södertörn University in Stockholm. It provides:

  • Insights on how populist and far-right actors manipulate the language and institutions of democracy, wield violence, and intervene in knowledge production to discredit independent voices and promote exclusionary ideologies.
  • Findings from CCINDLE’s co-production initiatives, including events in Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Spain, and Sweden with participants representing academia, state institutions, grassroots movements, and non-governmental organisations.
  • Recommendations on recognising the risks of anti-gender politics for democracy, countering the gendered physical, psychological, sexual, symbolic, economic, and cyber violence that stifles democratic participation, protecting knowledge production, and building intersectional alliances that span societies.

The Joint Statement on the Best Practices for Countering Gendered De-Democratization in Europe and Beyond is likely to be valuable to those interested in the dynamics of anti-gender mobilisations and autocratisation. You can access the full Statement here, and find more reports, articles, and recommendations across the website.
